Mixed Media Tempera Paintings winter 2019

Here are the finished works of 2 classes of 5-11 yr olds. we looked at Romare Beardon's painting/collages and hunted for share in the bodies of his figures. We played the Funny Man group exercise where we each separately draw and cut out a body part and then put a figure together on a bulletin board. This introduced us too the word proportion because our figure was definitely not IN proportion! Then get out the paint  and use your big piece of mat board. The exercises may or may not have influenced the paintings -they were a few seeds to scatter. Each artist is at his/her own stage of development, some have solved the problem of drawing a figure many times, some not. The project had 2 stages- paint, then draw another layer with oil pastel and add fabric or buttons. The second stage is another chance to look at your painting and add texture, outline and decide 'Am I finished?'

Summer Art Camp is a morning program for 5-11yr olds. We do individual and collaborative work with a variety of 2D and 3D materials. The work is inspired by nature, fine artists, the materials themselves, and each other. It’s summer and the aim is to get wet, dirty and immersed in the elements!

The Art
Visit my blog for pictures of past projects and summer camp archives. It will give you an idea of the materials I use regularly and the kinds of activities we do at camp. During Summer Camp we will do more with the outdoors and nature for inspiration. Each week will have a loose theme to tie the activities together. Some of the projects will produce products that we can play with outside. Some projects will be collaborative and others will simply be art to look at. There will be free time to experiment with materials.

The media will be a mixture of 2D and 3D.

I’ll let you know the themes later! (Not only do I need time to get it altogether, I also think that a theme does not tell a child what camp’s going to be like)
