Winter Art Classes 2022

Welcome to Winter Art!

For the fall I tried to cluster a younger and older group but family logistics took over. So once again I will have multiple age groups so carpooling and getting here works for everybody. Both classes welcome 5-11 yr olds. Projects will continue to be the kind each child can work at their own level. We will continue to wear masks inside and will probably be mostly in the studio. I am not scheduling park visits but will watch the weather closer the start of the session and will plan to go outside if there is beautiful snow to exploit!

I am starting the session at the end of January.

Our focus will be building in 3D using cardboard in the first 4 classes then multi media in the last 4 (wire, fabric, paper, recycled materials, wood)

Here’s what I am planning for the next few months:

Monday 3:30-5pm 8 classes: 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21
Tuesday 2:30-4pm 8 classes: 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22

Fees:
8 class session $180
4 classes- either first 4 or last 4 $100

Open Studios
Monday and Tuesday January 10 and 11 3:30-5pm
Thursdays February 10 and March 10
Drop in time for families to play and use available materials. Let me know the week before if you are coming so I can limit numbers)
$5, $10 max for families

To register: Send me an email with your child's DOB and class preference and I will let you know if there is still space. If so I will send you the registration papers.

Thanks, Ann

Fall Art Classes 2021

Farm country northwest of Toronto

Hello to All! The corn is high and the smell of mature grasses is in the air. I am in Canada visiting family and savoring the August days.

I am offering classes on Mondays and Tuesdays this fall. Unlike prior years the classes will be consecutive. You have the choice of registering for 4 weeks or 8 weeks of the Fall Session, October-November. I am in Canada until 8/30 but have internet and email!

Pandemic Protocols: I want to be hopeful that soon we will be mask free but not yet! So I will continue to use outdoor spaces as much as I can and while indoor, we will all wear masks. I'll use my backyard and the local parks. Park classes will be rescheduled for severe weather.

The Art: The focus for the fall is print making and versatile paper. Projects will use a combination of 2D and 3D materials to explore the possibilities with a variety of printmaking techniques. Experimentation and play is the goal!

I hope to do one park class per 4 class block. We'll move to play with art principles like line, form, texture, symmetry, composition and to exercise our artist senses!

Here is the Schedule:

Gr 2-5 Monday afternoons 3:30-5pm
Fall Block 1 10/4, 10/18, 10/25*, 11/1   *class at Robbins Farm Park
Fall Block 2 11/8, 11/15, 11/22*, 11/29   *class at Menotomy Rocks Park

K-Gr3 Tuesday afternoons 2:30-4pm. Note the earlier time due to school early release on Tuesdays
Fall Block 3 10/5, 10/12, 10/19*, 10/26   *class at Robbins Farm Park
Fall block 4  11/2, 11/9, 11/16*, 11/23.  *class at Menotomy Rocks Park

The age categories I choose are arbitrary and can be flexible to accommodate your schedule.

Open Studios:
Art Play! Open Studios is a chance to visit the studio and choose to make art with materials offered. Or  build with blocks and other building toys. ( I don't lead a project during this time) All family and friends welcome to stay and play. It is a drop in time but registration is required- simply email me and tell me you are coming! (just so I can keep handle on numbers)
2 Thursdays 10/28 and 12/ 2  3:30-5pm
Fees: $5 drop in fee

To Register:

Classes: Send me an email with your child's name, DOB, anything I should know about your child's comfort in groups and class preference. I will send you the paperwork. Summer Art Camp 2021

watercolor and marker summer 2019

What: Summer Art Camp is a morning program for 5-11yr olds. Art projects are linked to games, stories, playful physical challenges and experimentation with elements like water, sand, clay, bubbles, earth and air. We do individual and collaborative work with a variety of 2D and 3D materials. The work is inspired by nature, fine artists, the materials themselves, and each other. It’s summer and the aim is to get wet, dirty and immersed in the elements!

When: 9am -12noon

Week 1 June 28- July 2

Week 2  July 19- July 23

Week 3  July 26-July 30

Week 4  August 2-6

Where:

115 Robbins Rd, Arlington

Camp will be held at the studio down the driveway to the right of the house. Door is on the left. We will minimize the use of the indoor space as we have all this year. We will work and play in the backyard and at Robbins Farm Park

Approximate Schedule:

9:00 Gathering activity outside

9:15 Meeting and Art Project, free play

10:30 Bathroom and snack

12:00 Pickup at 115 Robbins Rd

Early Pickup: Let me know if you need to pick up your child early. You can come to the park if we are there.

Wear:

- hat

-shoes to run in(no flip flops please)

-clothes that can get dirt, paint, glue and more on them(I have smocks)

-sunscreen (please apply at home)

It is also helpful if you eat breakfast and do a bathroom visit before you come to camp! (full stomach, empty bladder)

Assistants:

I will have an assistant with me from 9-12 each day. They will help

me with materials, bathroom runs, cleanup and the trip to the park.

The Art

Visit my blog archive for pictures of past projects and summer camp archives. It will give you an idea of the materials I use regularly and the kinds of activities we do at camp. During Summer Camp we will do more with the outdoors and nature for inspiration. Each week will have a loose theme to tie the activities together. Some of the projects will produce products that we can play with outside. Some projects will be collaborative and others will simply be art to look at. There will be free time to experiment with materials.

The media will be a mixture of 2D and 3D.

I’ll let you know the themes later! (Not only do I need time to get it altogether, I also think that a theme does not tell a child what camp’s going to be like)

Registration! Please Read-

Send me an email and I will send you the registration package to be sent  by old fashioned mail (paper).  When I receive a complete package your child will be registered.

Spring Art

Hello Art Families, Happy Winter Break!

brisk block building in the backyard. Fall 2020

I hope your set of pandemic restrictions and pandemic perks are serving you well. I have enjoyed having my winter studio making journals and cards, leaving paper spread across tables and taking up all the space but I really miss the energy and enthusiasm of children artists young and old.

We are getting through! Hope is on the horizon. I am happy to offer another outdoor session starting April. Again I will use my backyard space and local parks. I will send reminders about location each week. I am sure we will all be still wearing masks and giving each other space!

As always I can’t predict enrollment so I am offering the same number of classes and will combine classes if the numbers are low. I would like to have at least 5 children in each class. The same goes for age groupings. I will offer one older class but if there is a greater proportion of older students I will try to make another older class. Also age groupings aren’t rigid so if logistics require to mix ages we can work it out.

Spring Session at a Room for Art
It is the tradition in the Spring to paint here at the studio and paint we will! We will do the projects that require lots of materials it the back yard and go light into the woods, using natural materials, journals, our senses and a few simple props. We will continue experimenting with games that play with color, line and shape.
